Hinterveld is a boutique weaving mill in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Since its inception several years ago, the company has grown to become a leader in the production of mohair fabrics and has even come up with its own style, an African-inspired mohair tweed now synonymous with the Hinterveld name.
Premium mohair is Hinterveld’s competitive advantage, but the mill also blends many other natural fibers, such as alpaca, merino wool, silk or linen, to weave stunning tweed-style fabric in variety of color variations, both vivid and subtle. As part of the Stucken Group, an international leader in mohair buying, trading and processing, Hinterveld has access to the vast wealth of experience acquired by the Group’s commitment to premium mohair in South Africa since 1951.
From the remote parts of the Karoo region, a land known for its dramatic landscape and harsh climate, comes the fleece of the Angora goat – shorn by generations of farmers, then continuing on its journey of refinement at the Hinterveld mill where this raw fiber is transformed into exquisite fabrics and luxurious ready-made products.
Aside from producing some of the finest mohair fabric, Hinterveld creates beautiful collections annually of ready-made mohair products for the fashion and home markets – including everything from scarves to blankets and throws.
The mill’s passion for quality results in its luxurious, premium ranges of blankets and throws that – despite differences in color and weave – share outstanding beauty, integrity and the softest warmth. As for fashion pieces, Hinterveld offers a wide range of shawls, scarves and ponchos. It’s knit fabrics are targeted to the fashion industry, specifically the international brands with Haute Couture / High Fashion collections.
The 2016 home and fashion collections focus mostly on Kid Mohair, one of the world’s most lustrous sustainable natural resources. Set apart by its unique resilience, color retention, lightweight and durable qualities, mohair is a rare and sought-after natural fiber that exudes luxury. Hinterveld draws on these characteristics to craft beautiful and timeless mohair products that represent authenticity and embrace the African landscapes and culture.
With an exceptionally beautiful range of stock filled with unique colors and patterns, Hinterveld aims to develop long-term relationships with its growing customer base, which shares its enthusiasm for this remarkable, natural product.
